2025 Scholar David Wareham Graduates from Intelligent Mobility Masters' Degree at the Royal College of Art

David Wareham has successfully completed his Masters in Intelligent Mobility at the Royal College of Art, joining an elite cadre of designers shaping the future of transportation from the world’s top-ranked institution for art and design. This achievement holds special significance for the Heveningham Concours community, as proceeds from our annual event directly support scholarships for this transformative RCA program.

The completion of this rigorous 12-month Masters degree places David among alumni who have gone on to lead design at Aston Martin, Volvo, McLaren, and Porsche. His journey through RCA’s Intelligent Mobility Design Centre represents mastery of the complex intersection between traditional automotive excellence and the radical transformation ahead – precisely the balance that Heveningham Concours celebrates each year.

David explored certain subjects as part of the programme, some of which included::

  • Automotive Transitions a collaboration with Hyundai Kia, creating a sustainable vehicle concept for Lisbon. The design drew on local materials and production methods while respecting the city’s cultural aesthetic, aiming to show how mobility solutions can integrate with place and identity rather than disrupt them.

  • A work placement focused on a future vision of the bus driver cab for Transport for London. Using insights from the Intelligent Mobility Design Centre (IMDC), David developed a functional new layout and control system designed to reduce cognitive load and improve driver satisfaction.

David’s work, spanning from futuristic vehicle concepts to innovative control interfaces and motorcycle designs, demonstrates the program’s emphasis on systems thinking and human-centered design. His projects showcase the delicate balance between technological capability and emotional resonance – understanding that the vehicles gracing future concours lawns must inspire passion while addressing sustainability imperatives and autonomous technologies.

The program’s state-of-the-art facilities in RCA’s Battersea campus – including mixed reality labs, advanced prototyping workshops, and traditional clay modeling studios – enabled David to explore both digital innovation and traditional craftsmanship. This dual fluency proves essential as the industry navigates software-defined vehicles while preserving the tactile excellence that defines automotive luxury.
